Getting a clean 4K image
8.3 million pixels. 4K has four times the pixels of 1920×1080. To look sharp, start from a photo at least this large — most phone cameras (12 MP and up) are big enough in width, then trimmed to 16:9.
Don't upscale a small image. Stretching a 1080p file to 4K adds no detail; it just makes a bigger blurry file. If your source is smaller than 3840 wide, a Full HD wallpaper will look better.
File size. A 4K photo as JPG is usually 1.5–4 MB. For sharing online, compress it with 2.5 MB or 1 MB.
Other large sizes: 2560×1440 (QHD), 4080×3060 (phone camera).

3840×2160 has a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 2560×1440, 3000×1500 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
How big will a 3840×2160 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 3840×2160 prints at 12.8×7.2 inches (32.5×18.3 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 25.6×14.4 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.

Will my photo lose quality at 3840×2160?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 3840×2160 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 3840×2160. Without it, the image fills 3840×2160 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 16:9 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
