Resize Image to 1500×500

1500×500 is a 3:1 strip — three times as wide as it is tall. It is best known as the X (Twitter) header size, but the same shape works for website hero strips, newsletter headers and section banners. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.

Why choose 1500×500?

1500×500 gives a landscape canvas with a 3:1 ratio and 0.75 MP of detail. People most often need it for the X (Twitter) header.

▢

3:1 landscape shape

The wide 3:1 proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.

🎯

The exact size needed

1500×500 is the exact size for the X (Twitter) header, so your image is shown as-is instead of being re-scaled or cropped by the platform.

🖨

Prints 5×1.67 in at 300 DPI

That is 12.7×4.2 cm at photo quality, or 10×3.3 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.

💾

About 120 KB–230 KB as JPG

A typical photo at 1500×500 saves to roughly 120 KB–230 KB at good JPG quality; WebP is usually 25–35% smaller.

✨

Sharp results

A 12 MP phone photo has 16× more pixels than 1500×500, so resizing down keeps it sharp.

✂

Framing control

Filling 1500×500 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 56% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Fit whole image inside instead of cropping” to keep it all.

Composing for a 3:1 strip

This page opens on the exact-size preset, which scales your image to cover 1500×500 and trims whatever overflows. That guarantees the dimensions, but on a normal photo it removes a lot of height — a 3:2 camera shot loses about half.

Pick the strip yourself. For anything with a subject, use the cropper at a 3:1 ratio to choose which band of the photo stays, then resize. Horizons, skylines, textures and gradients survive the crop well; portraits usually do not.

Website headers. A 3:1 hero behind a headline needs a calm area for the text. Place busy detail at the sides and keep the centre simple. Remember that responsive sites often crop hero images further on phones.

Email newsletters. Many email templates are 600 pixels wide. A 1500-pixel header scales down cleanly there and stays sharp on high-DPI screens — but keep the file light, as email clients do not lazy-load. See also 600×240.

For X / Twitter specifically, including where the avatar overlaps the banner, use the dedicated Twitter banner resizer page.

Other wide formats: 2660×1140, 1000×500 for 2:1.

Frequently asked questions

Will my photo be cropped when resized to 1500×500?

Almost certainly, because very few photos are 3:1. This page crops the overflow equally from the top and bottom to hit the exact size. To control which part is kept, crop to 3:1 with the cropper first, then resize.

What aspect ratio is 1500×500?

1500×500 has a wide 3:1 aspect ratio. Images with a different shape have to be cropped or padded to fit it.

How big will a 1500×500 image print?

At 300 DPI (photo quality) 1500×500 prints at 5×1.67 inches (12.7×4.2 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 10×3.33 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.

How large is a 1500×500 file?

A photo at 1500×500 is usually 120 KB–230 KB as a JPG, and about 82 KB–160 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.

Will my photo lose quality at 1500×500?

No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.

Can I resize to 1500×500 without cropping?

Yes. Tick “Fit whole image inside instead of cropping”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 1500×500. Without it, the image fills 1500×500 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 3:1 shape are trimmed.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
