Getting the eBay listing photo right

eBay buyers rely on zoom to inspect items. Photos at eBay’s recommended 1600 pixels make that possible and look tidy as square thumbnails.

🔍

Zoom enabled

eBay recommends 1600 px or more.

💾

About 400 KB–800 KB as JPG

A typical photo at 1600×1600 saves to roughly 400 KB–800 KB at good quality — well within the upload limit.

You choose the crop

Filling 1600×1600 from a 3:4 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick the fit option to keep everything.

Photos that meet eBay’s rules

500 minimum, 1600 for zoom. eBay requires at least 500 pixels on the longest side, and recommends 1600 pixels or more so the zoom feature works. Buyers zoom to check condition, labels and flaws — sharp photos build trust.

Square looks tidy. eBay search shows square thumbnails. A 1600×1600 photo with the item centred fills that thumbnail and looks consistent with your other listings.

Batch the whole listing. Add every photo of the item at once; they are resized together and downloaded as a ZIP. Files stay far below eBay’s 12 MB limit.
