Resize Image to 64×64
64×64 is a workhorse icon size: toolbar and launcher icons, game sprites and textures, and part of a full Windows icon set. It is a power of two, which is why so much software likes it. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 64×64?
64×64 gives a square canvas with a 1:1 ratio and 0 MP of detail. People most often need it for small icons and emoji.
1:1 square shape
The square (1:1) proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.
The exact size needed
64×64 is the exact size for small icons and emoji, so your image is shown as-is instead of being re-scaled or cropped by the platform.
Prints 0.21×0.21 in at 300 DPI
That is 0.5×0.5 cm at photo quality, or 0.4×0.4 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.
About 1 KB–1 KB as JPG
Expect around 1 KB–1 KB for a JPG photo at this size. Simple graphics are smaller, PNG photos several times larger.
Sharp results
A 12 MP phone photo has 2,977× more pixels than 64×64, so resizing down keeps it sharp.
Framing control
Filling 64×64 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Where 64×64 fits
Icons. 64×64 gives you enough pixels for a recognisable symbol with
some shading, without the fine detail that gets lost at smaller sizes. It is
common for plugin and extension listings, desktop icons at higher scaling,
and inside multi-size .ico files.
Game assets. Graphics hardware has long preferred power-of-two texture sizes — 32, 64, 128, 256. Character sprites, item icons and tiles are often drawn at 64×64. Minecraft player skins, for example, use a 64×64 texture layout (older skins were 64×32). Note that a skin is a map of body parts, not a picture you can shrink from a photo.
Pixel art vs photos. Shrinking a photo to 64 pixels blends colours. Resizing hand-drawn pixel art to 64×64 from a different size will blur its hard edges unless the scale factor is a whole number, such as 32 → 64 or 128 → 64.
Use PNG. It keeps transparency and sharp edges. JPG adds halo artefacts around shapes at this size.
Building a set? Pair this with 32×32, 128×128 and 256×256, then combine them with PNG to ICO.

Frequently asked questions
Why are game textures and icons so often 64×64?
64 is a power of two, and graphics hardware and older engines handled power-of-two sizes most efficiently for scaling and mipmapping. The habit stuck, so many tools, engines and icon specs still use 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256.
What aspect ratio is 64×64?
64×64 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 50×50, 96×96 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
How big will a 64×64 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 64×64 prints at 0.21×0.21 inches (0.5×0.5 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 0.43×0.43 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 64×64 file?
A photo at 64×64 is usually 1 KB–1 KB as a JPG, and about 0 KB–1 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 64×64?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 64×64 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 64×64. Without it, the image fills 64×64 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
