2048×2048 for stores and for 3D
Product photos. Shopify's help pages have long recommended 2048×2048 for square product images, because it gives zoom plenty of detail while the platform generates smaller versions automatically. Keep all your products square and the same size so collection grids line up.
Textures. 2048 is 211, so it mipmaps cleanly. It is a standard “2K” texture resolution for props and characters. For tiling surfaces, fix seams before resizing — resizing blends edges but cannot align them.
Why not 2000? For photos there is no visible difference. For textures and some app icons, exact powers of two avoid resampling inside the engine. Pick 2048 if software asks for it; otherwise 2000×2000 is fine.
File size. Photos at this size are usually 500 KB–1.5 MB as JPG. Use WebP or the compressor for faster pages.

What size should Shopify product images be?
Shopify has long recommended 2048×2048 pixels for square product images, and says images over 800×800 enable zoom. Keep every product image the same aspect ratio so your collection pages line up.
What aspect ratio is 2048×2048?
2048×2048 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 2000×2000, 1920×1920 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
