Resize Image to 100×100

100×100 is the round-number square that forms, forums and directories love to ask for. It is small enough to load instantly and large enough to show a face or a product clearly. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.

Why choose 100×100?

100×100 gives a square canvas with a 1:1 ratio and 0.01 MP of detail. People most often need it for avatars, icons and thumbnails.

▢

1:1 square shape

The square (1:1) proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.

🎯

Where it is used

100×100 suits avatars, icons and thumbnails. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.

🖨

Prints 0.33×0.33 in at 300 DPI

That is 0.8×0.8 cm at photo quality, or 0.7×0.7 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.

💾

About 2 KB–3 KB as JPG

Expect around 2 KB–3 KB for a JPG photo at this size. Simple graphics are smaller, PNG photos several times larger.

✨

Sharp results

A 12 MP phone photo has 1,219× more pixels than 100×100, so resizing down keeps it sharp.

✂

Framing control

Filling 100×100 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Getting a clean 100×100 from any photo

Square first, then resize. Most photos are 4:3, 3:2 or 16:9. Forcing one straight into 100×100 either squashes it or crops it wherever the software decides. Crop to a square yourself with the cropper, choosing what stays, then bring it here.

Frame for the slot. For a profile photo, head and shoulders filling most of the square. For a product, the item centred with a little breathing room. For a logo, the symbol rather than the full wordmark — text below about 10 pixels high is unreadable.

Check the upload limits too. Forms that demand 100×100 often also cap the file size. A 100×100 JPG is normally only a few kilobytes, so this is rarely an issue, but if it is, run it through Compress JPG.

Format. JPG for photographs, PNG for logos, icons or anything with a transparent background. If the form only accepts one type, convert with PNG to JPG or JPG to PNG.

Retina reality. A 100-pixel slot on a phone uses 200–300 real pixels. If the site will take a bigger file, 200×200 looks sharper. When it will not, exact 100×100 is the right call.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resize a rectangular photo to 100×100 without stretching it?

Yes — crop it to a square first so the proportions match, then resize. Typing 100×100 into a resizer on a rectangular image forces both sides to 100 and distorts it. Cropping lets you choose which part of the photo is kept.

What aspect ratio is 100×100?

100×100 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 98×98, 96×96 — can be scaled to it without cropping.

How big will a 100×100 image print?

At 300 DPI (photo quality) 100×100 prints at 0.33×0.33 inches (0.8×0.8 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 0.67×0.67 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.

How large is a 100×100 file?

A photo at 100×100 is usually 2 KB–3 KB as a JPG, and about 1 KB–2 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.

Will my photo lose quality at 100×100?

No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.

Can I resize to 100×100 without cropping?

Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 100×100. Without it, the image fills 100×100 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
