Remove Background from Image
Cut out people, products, pets and objects automatically. The AI runs on your own device, so your photos are never uploaded. Download a transparent PNG or put the subject on white, black, a colour or a blurred background. Need a passport photo next? Use the 35×45 mm resizer.
Move the Edges slider to the left for crisper, harder outlines — useful for logos and product shots.
Why remove backgrounds here?
Most background removers upload your photo to a server and charge for full resolution. This one does the work in your browser, at full size, for free.
- Add one or more photos, or drop them onto the box. The background is removed automatically.
- Drag the compare slider to check the result, then choose the new background and edge style.
- Download the image — or all of them as a ZIP.
High-quality AI cut-out
A high-resolution segmentation network (IS-Net) finds the subject and traces its outline — clean edges around people, products and pets, no brushing needed.
Never uploaded
The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your device. Your photos stay with you.
Full resolution, free
Results are saved at your photo’s own size (up to 4096 px), with no watermark and no sign-up.
Any new background
Transparent, white, black, any colour, or a blurred version of the original for a portrait look.
Erase & restore brush
Keep something the AI removed — a chair, a bench, a pet in your lap — or wipe away a leftover patch, with a simple brush.
Batch processing
Drop in several images; each one is processed in turn and they all download as one ZIP.
Getting the cleanest cut-out
In Best mode the tool uses IS-Net, an open-source AI model built for “dichotomous image segmentation” — separating an object from its background at high resolution (Qin et al., Apache 2.0 licence). It analyses your photo at 768×768 pixels, decides what the subject is — a person, a product, an animal — and draws a precise mask around it. Fast mode uses the much smaller U²-Net-p model for older devices.
It works best when there is one clear subject that contrasts with its surroundings: a product on a table, a portrait, a pet, a car, a logo on a plain wall. Busy scenes with many objects, very fine hair against a similar-coloured background, and see-through objects such as glass are harder; there you may see a soft halo or a missing strand. Shooting against a plain background, with good light and the subject filling most of the frame, gives the best results.
Keep or remove more: the AI decides what the main subject is. If you want to keep something it removed — the chair or bench someone is sitting on, a bag, a pet — click Erase / Restore, choose Restore and simply click it — Magic select brings back the whole object, following its outline, using a faint copy of the original as a guide. For objects with gaps, like the slats of a bench, drag across them in one stroke and every slat you touch comes back together; the brush handles fine details. Erase works the same way for leftover background.
Edges: “Natural” keeps the model’s soft transition, which looks right for hair and fur. Moving the slider left makes the outline crisper, which suits products, packaging and logos. For e-commerce listings, choose White — most marketplaces ask for a pure white background — and save as JPG. For designs and overlays, keep Transparent and save as PNG or WebP.
The first time you use Best mode, your browser downloads the 44 MB AI model, which takes a few seconds on a fast connection; after that it is cached and starts immediately. Processing runs on your graphics chip and usually takes a few seconds per photo. Devices without graphics acceleration, or with too little graphics memory, switch to Fast mode automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is this background remover really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on resolution or number of images. The processing happens on your own device, so there is no server cost to pass on.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Only the AI model is downloaded to your browser; your photos are processed locally and never leave your device.
What kind of photos work best?
A single clear subject — a person, product, pet or object — that stands out from the background. Busy scenes, fine hair on similar colours and glass are harder.
It removed something I wanted to keep. Can I bring it back?
Yes. Click Erase / Restore, choose Restore and click the part with Magic select — for example the chair someone is sitting on — or drag across it to grab every part at once. Click again for any piece it missed, or use the Brush for small details. Erase works the same way for leftover background, and Undo reverses any step.
How do I get a white background for a product photo?
Choose White under Background and JPG as the format, then download. That is the format most online marketplaces ask for.
Why does the first photo take longer?
The first time, your browser downloads the 44 MB high-quality AI model. It is cached afterwards, so the next photos start straight away. On a slow connection, choose Fast mode (2 MB).
