Why convert PDF pages to images?

Images go places a PDF cannot: social posts, slides, chats, websites and forms that only accept JPG or PNG.

  1. Choose a PDF or drop it onto the box.
  2. Pick the format, the resolution and — if you like — a page range.
  3. Click Convert to images, then download single pages or everything as a ZIP.

Choosing the right resolution

A PDF page has no fixed pixel size, so the converter draws it at the resolution you choose. An A4 page becomes about 595×842 pixels at 72 DPI, 1240×1754 at 150 DPI and 2480×3508 at 300 DPI. A US Letter page is 1275×1650 at 150 DPI.

150 DPI suits most uses: it is sharp on screens and readable when zoomed, while keeping files reasonably small. Choose 300 DPI when the image will be printed or when the page has small print. 72 DPI is enough for thumbnails and quick previews.

For the format, JPG gives the smallest files and is accepted everywhere. PNG keeps text and line drawings perfectly crisp, with no blurry edges around letters, at the cost of larger files. WebP is ideal for putting pages on a website.

Converting turns text into pictures of text: it can still be read but no longer selected or searched. If you only want a lighter PDF, the PDF compressor is the better tool; to combine images back into a PDF, use JPG to PDF.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert only some pages?

Type them in the Pages box, for example “1-3, 5, 9-”. A range without an end, such as “9-”, runs to the last page.

What resolution should I choose?

150 DPI for screens and sharing, 300 DPI for printing or tiny text, 72 DPI for thumbnails.

JPG or PNG?

JPG for scanned photos and the smallest files; PNG when the page is mostly text, charts or line art and you want razor-sharp edges.

Can it open password-protected PDFs?

Yes, if you know the password. You are asked for it in the browser and it is never sent anywhere.

Is there a page or size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Very large documents at 300 DPI need plenty of memory, so convert them in page ranges on older phones.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are rendered in your browser with Mozilla’s open-source PDF.js engine; nothing is uploaded or stored.
