Resize Image to 800×800

800×800 is a frequently required minimum: many e-commerce platforms will not accept product photos below it, and it is the size used for WhatsApp profile pictures and SoundCloud track artwork. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.

Why choose 800×800?

800×800 is a square image of 640,000 pixels (0.64 megapixels) in a square (1:1), mostly used for social posts and product photos.

▢

1:1 square shape

Every 800×800 image has a square (1:1) ratio, so anything you design for it keeps the same proportions on every screen.

🎯

Where it is used

800×800 suits social posts and product photos. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.

🖨

Prints 2.67×2.67 in at 300 DPI

That is 6.8×6.8 cm at photo quality, or 5.3×5.3 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.

💾

About 100 KB–200 KB as JPG

Expect around 100 KB–200 KB for a JPG photo at this size. Simple graphics are smaller, PNG photos several times larger.

✨

Sharp results

A 12 MP phone photo has 19× more pixels than 800×800, so resizing down keeps it sharp.

✂

Framing control

Filling 800×800 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Why 800×800 is a common minimum

Marketplaces set a floor on product image size because of zoom. If a buyer can magnify a photo, the stored image needs more pixels than the slot it is displayed in — otherwise zooming just enlarges blur. 800×800 is the point where a typical product photo still holds together at moderate zoom, which is why so many platforms picked it as the lower bound.

That also means 800×800 is a minimum, not a target. If the platform accepts larger, give it larger — 1200×1200 or 1920×1920 will look better under zoom. Use 800×800 when it is the size actually specified, or when file weight matters more than zoom quality.

For product photography specifically, a white or neutral background and the item filling most of the frame will do more for the listing than any resize setting. Crop to the product first with the cropper, then square it here.

Expect a JPG around 100–300KB depending on detail. If the platform also caps the file size, run the result through the compressor in target-size mode afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Why do marketplaces require at least 800×800?

Because of zoom. When a buyer magnifies a product photo the stored image needs more pixels than the display slot, and below roughly 800×800 zoom starts showing blur instead of detail. It is a minimum, so upload larger where the platform allows it.

What aspect ratio is 800×800?

800×800 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 840×840, 900×900 — can be scaled to it without cropping.

How big will a 800×800 image print?

At 300 DPI (photo quality) 800×800 prints at 2.67×2.67 inches (6.8×6.8 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 5.33×5.33 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.

How large is a 800×800 file?

A photo at 800×800 is usually 100 KB–200 KB as a JPG, and about 70 KB–140 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.

Will my photo lose quality at 800×800?

No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.

Can I resize to 800×800 without cropping?

Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 800×800. Without it, the image fills 800×800 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
