Printing 8×10 without surprises

At 300 DPI, 8×10 inches is 2400 × 3000 pixels.

The crop surprise. 8×10 is 4:5, noticeably squarer than a camera photo (2:3). A full-length photo loses a lot from the top and bottom — crop here so you see it first.

Resolution check. Most phone photos are 3000–4000 pixels tall, enough for 300 DPI. Older or heavily cropped images may fall short; 200 DPI (1600×2000 px) still looks fine on a wall.

Same shape for Instagram: 4:5. Letter-size page instead: 8.5×11.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my photo get cropped at 8×10?

8×10 is a 4:5 shape, while cameras shoot 2:3 and phones 3:4. The extra length has to be trimmed; cropping it yourself lets you choose what stays.

How many photos of 8×10 inch fit on an A4 page?

One, and only with borderless printing — 8×10 inch covers almost the whole A4 page.

What DPI should a 8×10 inch photo be?

300 DPI is the standard for photo prints and gives 2400×3000 pixels. Some offices accept 200 DPI (1600×2000); 600 DPI (4800×6000) is only needed for very high-quality printing.

What is 8×10 inch in other units?

8×10 inch is 203.2×254 mm, 20.32×25.4 cm. Close sizes that are often confused with it: 8.5×11 in, 5×7 in.

Why does my 8×10 inch print come out the wrong size?

Most printers scale images to “fit page” by default. Choose “actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, and the photo will print at exactly 8×10 inch.

How large is a 8×10 inch photo file?

Usually 1.1 MB–2.2 MB as a JPG at 300 DPI. If an online form allows less, reduce it with the compressor — the print size stays the same.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
