Resize Image to 1024×1024
1024×1024 is the square most AI image generators output by default, the master size for large app icons, and a common requirement for high-resolution avatars and cover art. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 1024×1024?
1024×1024 gives a square canvas with a 1:1 ratio and 1.05 MP of detail. People most often need it for app-store icons and square AI-generated images.
1:1 square shape
Every 1024×1024 image has a square (1:1) ratio, so anything you design for it keeps the same proportions on every screen.
The exact size needed
1024×1024 is the exact size for app-store icons and square AI-generated images, so your image is shown as-is instead of being re-scaled or cropped by the platform.
Prints 3.41×3.41 in at 300 DPI
That is 8.7×8.7 cm at photo quality, or 6.8×6.8 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.
About 160 KB–330 KB as JPG
A typical photo at 1024×1024 saves to roughly 160 KB–330 KB at good JPG quality; WebP is usually 25–35% smaller.
Sharp results
A 12 MP phone photo has 12× more pixels than 1024×1024, so resizing down keeps it sharp.
Framing control
Filling 1024×1024 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Why 1024 is the default square
1024 is 2¹⁰. Image models, texture pipelines and icon toolchains all favour powers of two because they tile, halve and mipmap without fractional pixels — which is how 1024×1024 became the default output of most generative image tools and the top of most icon sets.
That makes it a convenient master. From 1024 you get 512, 256, 128, 64, 32 and 16 by repeated halving, each one clean. If you are producing an icon set or an asset pipeline, generate at 1024 and derive downward rather than exporting each size separately.
It is also large enough to be a real image, not just an asset: 1.05 megapixels, sharp at full width on a phone and fine at moderate size on a desktop. A JPG typically lands 150–500KB; PNG will be several times that for a photograph but is the right choice for anything with transparency or hard edges.
Squaring a non-square source costs the long edge — about a quarter of a 4:3 photo's width, more than 40% of a 16:9 one. Crop first with the cropper when the composition matters. Related: 512×512 for icons and 1200×1200 for product photos.
Frequently asked questions
Why do AI image tools output 1024×1024?
Because image models work in powers of two, which tile and downscale without fractional pixels. 1024 is the standard square that balances detail against the memory and time the model needs, which is why it became the common default.
What aspect ratio is 1024×1024?
1024×1024 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 1000×1000, 1080×1080 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
How big will a 1024×1024 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 1024×1024 prints at 3.41×3.41 inches (8.7×8.7 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 6.83×6.83 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 1024×1024 file?
A photo at 1024×1024 is usually 160 KB–330 KB as a JPG, and about 110 KB–230 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 1024×1024?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 1024×1024 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 1024×1024. Without it, the image fills 1024×1024 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
