Resize Image to 400×600

400×600 is a compact 2:3 portrait — a common size for book and film poster thumbnails, sidebar graphics and mobile-first cards where a tall image works better than a wide one. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.

Why choose 400×600?

400×600 gives a portrait canvas with a 2:3 ratio and 0.24 MP of detail. People most often need it for portrait photos, posters and mobile screens.

▢

2:3 portrait shape

The portrait 2:3 proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.

🎯

Where it is used

400×600 suits portrait photos, posters and mobile screens. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.

🖨

Prints 1.33×2 in at 300 DPI

That is 3.4×5.1 cm at photo quality, or 2.7×4 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.

💾

About 38 KB–75 KB as JPG

A typical photo at 400×600 saves to roughly 38 KB–75 KB at good JPG quality; WebP is usually 25–35% smaller.

✨

Sharp results

A 12 MP phone photo has 51× more pixels than 400×600, so resizing down keeps it sharp.

✂

Framing control

Filling 400×600 from a 3:4 phone photo trims about 11% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Where a 400×600 portrait fits

Cover and poster thumbnails. Book catalogues, film databases and reading apps often show covers at 2:3. 400×600 is sharp in slots up to 200 pixels wide on high-DPI screens and light enough for long lists.

Sidebars and skyscraper-ish slots. A tall graphic suits narrow side columns better than a banner. Keep text in the upper half, where readers look first.

Mobile cards. On phones, vertical images fill more of the screen without making the user scroll sideways.

From your photos. Vertical camera photos are already 2:3. Phone portraits are 3:4 and need the sides trimmed slightly — crop to 2:3 with the cropper, then resize.

Batch for catalogues. Drop a folder of covers in and download them all at 400×600 as a ZIP.

File size. Typically 30–80 KB as JPG.

Same ratio: 600×900. Other portrait sizes: 300×400, 600×800.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resize a landscape photo to 400×600?

Only by cropping a vertical section out of it — a landscape photo is wider than it is tall, so fitting it into a 2:3 portrait frame means losing most of the width. Use the cropper at 2:3 to choose which part to keep.

What aspect ratio is 400×600?

400×600 has a portrait 2:3 aspect ratio. Images with a different shape have to be cropped or padded to fit it.

How big will a 400×600 image print?

At 300 DPI (photo quality) 400×600 prints at 1.33×2 inches (3.4×5.1 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 2.67×4 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.

How large is a 400×600 file?

A photo at 400×600 is usually 38 KB–75 KB as a JPG, and about 26 KB–52 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.

Will my photo lose quality at 400×600?

No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.

Can I resize to 400×600 without cropping?

Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 400×600. Without it, the image fills 400×600 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 2:3 shape are trimmed.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
