When a square pin is the right choice
Products and flat lays. A product centred on a plain background, or a recipe shot from above, naturally fits a square. There is no need to stretch it into 2:3.
Carousels. Pinterest carousel pins hold several images; they must share one shape, and square (1:1) is one of the two options. Resize every slide together so they match.
Less height in the feed. A square takes less vertical space than a 2:3 pin, so it can be overlooked among taller pins. For maximum visibility use the standard 2:3 pin.
