Resize Image to 851×315
851×315 is the classic Facebook page cover size, about 2.7 times as wide as it is tall. This page crops and resizes your image to that exact banner. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 851×315?
851×315 gives a landscape canvas with a 2.7:1 ratio and 0.27 MP of detail. People most often need it for headers, banners and web-ad slots.
2.7:1 landscape shape
Every 851×315 image has a 2.7:1 ratio, so anything you design for it keeps the same proportions on every screen.
Where it is used
851×315 suits headers, banners and web-ad slots. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.

That is 7.2×2.7 cm at photo quality, or 5.7×2.1 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.

Designing for the Facebook cover
Desktop vs phone. Facebook shows more of the height on phones and crops the sides; on desktop it shows the full width. Keep text and logos inside the middle two thirds so they survive both views.
Leave the corner free. On pages, the profile picture overlaps the lower-left of the cover on desktop. Don't put anything important there.
Sharper option. Facebook compresses covers heavily. Uploading at double size (1702×630) and as PNG when the design has text often looks crisper than a small JPG.
Other banners: Twitter banner, 1500×500, 1128×191 (LinkedIn).

Frequently asked questions
Why is my Facebook cover cut off on mobile?
Phones show a taller slice of the cover and trim the sides. Keep important content near the centre.
What aspect ratio is 851×315?
851×315 has a 2.7:1 aspect ratio. Images with a different shape have to be cropped or padded to fit it.
How big will a 851×315 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 851×315 prints at 2.84×1.05 inches (7.2×2.7 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 5.67×2.1 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 851×315 file?
A photo at 851×315 is usually 42 KB–84 KB as a JPG, and about 29 KB–59 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 851×315?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 851×315 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 851×315. Without it, the image fills 851×315 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 2.7:1 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
