Resize Image to 1200×1200
1200×1200 is the square that makes product zoom work. Many marketplaces treat it as the point where magnification shows detail rather than blur, and it doubles as a square social ad and catalogue size. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 1200×1200?
1200×1200 is a square image of 1,440,000 pixels (1.44 megapixels) in a square (1:1), mostly used for social posts and product photos.
1:1 square shape
The square (1:1) proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.
Where it is used
1200×1200 suits social posts and product photos. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.
Prints 4×4 in at 300 DPI
That is 10.2×10.2 cm at photo quality, or 8×8 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.
About 220 KB–450 KB as JPG
A typical photo at 1200×1200 saves to roughly 220 KB–450 KB at good JPG quality; WebP is usually 25–35% smaller.
Sharp results
A 12 MP phone photo has 8.5× more pixels than 1200×1200, so resizing down keeps it sharp.
Framing control
Filling 1200×1200 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

1200×1200 and the zoom threshold
Product zoom is the reason this size exists. When a buyer magnifies a photo, the browser is showing part of the stored image at full size — so the stored image needs more pixels than the display slot. A 600-pixel photo in a 600-pixel slot has nothing in reserve; a 1200-pixel photo has 2× to spend.
That is also why 1200×1200 is a common minimum rather than a target. Where a platform allows more, more is better for zoom quality — but 1.44 megapixels is where the returns start flattening for a typical product shot, and the file stays manageable at roughly 200–600KB as a JPG.
For square social ads the logic is different: the platform re-compresses whatever you send, so the value of 1200 is that it stays sharp after that second compression pass. Keep any text large and away from the edges.
As a square, a landscape or portrait source loses its long edge — around a quarter of a 4:3 photo's width. Crop the square you want with the cropper before resizing. If the platform caps file size, finish with the compressor. Related: 800×800 and 1920×1920.
Frequently asked questions
Is 1200×1200 enough for product zoom?
For most listings, yes — it gives roughly twice the pixels of a typical display slot, which is what zoom needs to show detail instead of blur. If the platform accepts larger and the product has fine texture or small print on it, go higher.
What aspect ratio is 1200×1200?
1200×1200 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 1300×1300, 1100×1100 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
How big will a 1200×1200 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 1200×1200 prints at 4×4 inches (10.2×10.2 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 8×8 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 1200×1200 file?
A photo at 1200×1200 is usually 220 KB–450 KB as a JPG, and about 160 KB–320 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 1200×1200?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 1200×1200 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 1200×1200. Without it, the image fills 1200×1200 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
