Getting the Facebook Marketplace photo right

Marketplace is a grid of square tiles. Square, well-framed photos show the whole item in search results and look more trustworthy to buyers.

🛒

Square search tiles

Listings are shown as squares — tall photos lose their top and bottom.

🎯

Item fills the frame

A big, centred product is recognisable at thumbnail size.

📢

Ready for Marketplace ads

Ads use the same 1:1 shape, minimum 600×600.

📷

Batch your listing

Resize all photos of an item at once and download them as a ZIP.

💾

About 180 KB–360 KB as JPG

A typical photo at 1080×1080 saves to roughly 180 KB–360 KB at good quality — well within the upload limit.

✂

You choose the crop

Filling 1080×1080 from a 3:4 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick the fit option to keep everything.

Photos that sell on Marketplace

Everything is a square tile. Marketplace browse and search results show each listing as a square thumbnail. If you upload a tall phone photo, the top and bottom are cut from the tile — sometimes including the item itself.

Centre the item, fill the frame. Buyers scroll fast. A product that fills most of the square on a plain background reads instantly, even at tile size. Use the background remover for a clean white backdrop.

Ads use the same square. Marketplace ad placements also use 1:1 images (minimum 600×600), so the same 1080×1080 photo works for paid promotion.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best photo size for Facebook Marketplace?

A 1080×1080 square. Marketplace shows listings as square tiles, so square photos are shown in full instead of being cropped.

Why is my Marketplace photo cut off?

Search results show square tiles, so tall or wide photos are trimmed. Square photos are shown completely.

How many photos can a Marketplace listing have?

Several — the first one becomes the tile in search, so make it the clearest square shot of the item.

Can I use a white background?

Yes, and it often helps. Remove the background first, choose white, then resize to 1080×1080.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
