Preparing an 18×24 poster

Pixels needed. At 300 DPI an 18×24 inch print needs 5400×7200 pixels. Posters are viewed from a distance, so 150 DPI (2700×3600) also looks good and is easier to reach from a phone photo.

A 3:4 shape. 18×24 is 3:4, the same shape as most phone photos, so very little is cropped from a vertical shot.

Check with your printer. Print shops may want a bleed margin; ask before ordering and add it if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How many pixels is an 18×24 inch poster?

5400×7200 pixels at 300 DPI, or 2700×3600 at 150 DPI, which is usually enough for a poster seen from a distance.

How many photos of 18×24 inch fit on an A4 page?

None — 18×24 inch is larger than an A4 sheet, so it needs bigger paper.

What DPI should a 18×24 inch photo be?

300 DPI is the standard for photo prints and gives 5400×7200 pixels. Some offices accept 200 DPI (3600×4800); 600 DPI (10800×14400) is only needed for very high-quality printing.

What is 18×24 inch in other units?

18×24 inch is 457.2×609.6 mm, 45.72×60.96 cm.

Why does my 18×24 inch print come out the wrong size?

Most printers scale images to “fit page” by default. Choose “actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, and the photo will print at exactly 18×24 inch.

How large is a 18×24 inch photo file?

Usually 5.9 MB–11.9 MB as a JPG at 300 DPI. If an online form allows less, reduce it with the compressor — the print size stays the same.

No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
