Why choose 50×50 mm?
A 50×50 mm photo measures 5×5 cm, 1.97×1.97 in. It is widely requested for ID cards, passport-style photos and application forms, and prints sharply at 591×591 pixels (300 DPI).
591×591 px at 300 DPI
The pixel size is worked out for you, and the file is saved with 300 DPI so it prints at exactly 50×50 mm.
Where it is used
50×50 mm is a common size for ID cards, passport-style photos and application forms. Check the requirements of the form or printer you are sending it to.
15 per A4 sheet
With small gaps, 15 photos fit on one A4 page and 15 on US Letter — handy for printing several copies at home.
1:1 square shape
The square (1:1) proportion decides the framing. Drag the preview so the subject sits where the rules expect it.

Getting a 50 mm square right
At 300 DPI, 50×50 mm is 591 × 591 pixels — the same as 5×5 cm.
Why forms use millimetres. Official photo specs are usually written in millimetres because tolerances matter: a head height of 25–35 mm leaves no room for rounding. Measure on the printed result if the form is strict.
51 mm is a different thing. The US 2×2 inch photo is 51×51 mm; if the instructions mention inches or the US, use the 51×51 mm page.
Framing a square photo: centre the face and keep a small margin above the head.

Frequently asked questions
Is 50×50 mm the same as 2×2 inches?
Close, but not identical: 2×2 inches is 50.8×50.8 mm. At 300 DPI that is 600×600 pixels versus 591×591 for 50×50 mm.
How many photos of 50×50 mm fit on an A4 page?
About 15 on A4 and 15 on US Letter, leaving 5 mm margins and 3 mm between photos. On 4×6 inch photo paper you can fit 2.
What DPI should a 50×50 mm photo be?
300 DPI is the standard for photo prints and gives 591×591 pixels. Some offices accept 200 DPI (394×394); 600 DPI (1181×1181) is only needed for very high-quality printing.
What is 50×50 mm in other units?
50×50 mm is 5×5 cm, 1.97×1.97 in. Close sizes that are often confused with it: 5×5 cm, 2×2 in.
Why does my 50×50 mm print come out the wrong size?
Most printers scale images to “fit page” by default. Choose “actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, and the photo will print at exactly 50×50 mm.
How large is a 50×50 mm photo file?
Usually 55 KB–110 KB as a JPG at 300 DPI. If an online form allows less, reduce it with the compressor — the print size stays the same.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
