Resize Image to 480×360
480×360 is a 4:3 frame that is familiar from video — it is the size of YouTube's “high quality” default thumbnail, and a common preview size in older players and galleries. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 480×360?
480×360 is a landscape image of 172,800 pixels (0.17 megapixels) in a classic 4:3, mostly used for blog images, slides and landscape photos.
4:3 landscape shape
The classic 4:3 proportion decides how your photo is framed: plan the subject around that shape before you crop.
Where it is used
480×360 suits blog images, slides and landscape photos. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.
Prints 1.6×1.2 in at 300 DPI
That is 4.1×3 cm at photo quality, or 3.2×2.4 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.
About 27 KB–54 KB as JPG
Expect around 27 KB–54 KB for a JPG photo at this size. Simple graphics are smaller, PNG photos several times larger.
Sharp results
A 12 MP phone photo has 71× more pixels than 480×360, so resizing down keeps it sharp.
Framing control
A 4:3 phone photo already matches this shape, so almost nothing is cropped.

480×360 thumbnails and previews
The YouTube connection. YouTube generates several thumbnail files per
video, and the hqdefault version is 480×360. Because it is 4:3
and most videos are 16:9, that file has black bars top and bottom. If you are
building a site that shows video thumbnails in a 4:3 frame, this is the size
to match.
For your own uploads, YouTube custom thumbnails should be 16:9 at 1280×720 — use the YouTube thumbnail page instead.
Previews and galleries. 4:3 at 480 wide suits gallery grids with phone photos, since phones shoot 4:3 and scale in without cropping.
Widescreen sources. 16:9 screenshots forced into 480×360 will look squashed. Crop to 4:3 with the cropper first, or use 640×360 to keep the 16:9 shape.
Light files. Typically 20–50 KB as JPG.

Frequently asked questions
Why do 480×360 video thumbnails have black bars?
Because 480×360 is 4:3 and most videos are 16:9. A widescreen frame placed in a 4:3 box needs bars above and below. Use a 16:9 size such as 640×360 or 1280×720 for widescreen content.
What aspect ratio is 480×360?
480×360 has a classic 4:3 aspect ratio. Images with a different shape have to be cropped or padded to fit it.
How big will a 480×360 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 480×360 prints at 1.6×1.2 inches (4.1×3 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 3.2×2.4 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 480×360 file?
A photo at 480×360 is usually 27 KB–54 KB as a JPG, and about 19 KB–38 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 480×360?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 480×360 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 480×360. Without it, the image fills 480×360 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 4:3 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
