Turning a passport photo into a 35 mm square

A 35×35 mm photo has the same width as the common 35×45 mm passport photo but drops the 10 mm of height. If you already have a correctly framed passport photo, the square version keeps the face and loses the space above the hair and below the chin — drag the preview so nothing important is cut.

At 300 DPI this is 413 × 413 pixels. The DPI is saved in the file, so card printers and photo labs print it at 35 mm without you entering the size.

Card photos are small. At 3.5 cm across, a face should fill most of the square to stay recognisable. Crop from just above the hair to the top of the shoulders.

Same size in cm: 3.5×3.5 cm. Other squares: 38.1 mm, 4×4 cm.
