Resize Image to 28×28
28×28 is the 1× size of a Twitch emote — the size it appears at in chat on a normal screen. This page resizes your emote art to exactly 28 pixels square. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need a smaller file instead? Compress or convert.
Drag the preview to choose which part of the image is kept. The same framing is used for every image in the batch.
Why choose 28×28?
28×28 gives a square canvas with a 1:1 ratio and 0 MP of detail. People most often need it for icons, emoji and favicons.
1:1 square shape
Every 28×28 image has a square (1:1) ratio, so anything you design for it keeps the same proportions on every screen.
Where it is used
28×28 suits icons, emoji and favicons. Using the exact size avoids a website scaling or cropping your image on its own.
Prints 0.09×0.09 in at 300 DPI
That is 0.2×0.2 cm at photo quality, or 0.2×0.2 in at 150 DPI for posters viewed from a distance.
About 0 KB–0 KB as JPG
Expect around 0 KB–0 KB for a JPG photo at this size. Simple graphics are smaller, PNG photos several times larger.
Sharp results
A 12 MP phone photo has 15,552× more pixels than 28×28, so resizing down keeps it sharp.
Framing control
Filling 28×28 from a 4:3 phone photo trims about 25% of it. Drag the preview to choose what stays, or tick “Keep aspect ratio” to keep it all.

Making a 28-pixel emote readable
Twitch emotes come in three sizes: 28×28, 56×56 and 112×112. Twitch can generate the small ones from a large upload, but a hand-checked 28-pixel version usually looks cleaner — automatic downscaling blurs thin lines.
Thicken the outline. A 1-pixel line on a 112-pixel drawing becomes a quarter pixel at 28 and disappears. Draw outlines at least 4 pixels wide on the large version so they survive.
Crop tight. Empty space around the character wastes pixels. Use the cropper to trim to the face or gesture first.
Keep transparency. Choose PNG so the emote sits cleanly on both light and dark chat themes. Other tiny squares: 32×32, 16×16.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to upload all three Twitch emote sizes?
Twitch accepts a single large image and scales it down, or three separate files at 28, 56 and 112 pixels. Separate files let you sharpen the small ones by hand.
What aspect ratio is 28×28?
28×28 has a square (1:1) aspect ratio. Any size with the same ratio — for example 32×32, 40×40 — can be scaled to it without cropping.
How big will a 28×28 image print?
At 300 DPI (photo quality) 28×28 prints at 0.09×0.09 inches (0.2×0.2 cm). At 150 DPI it covers 0.19×0.19 inches, fine for posters seen from further away.
How large is a 28×28 file?
A photo at 28×28 is usually 0 KB–0 KB as a JPG, and about 0 KB–0 KB as WebP. If you need it smaller, run it through the compressor afterwards.
Will my photo lose quality at 28×28?
No — a normal phone photo is much larger, so it is scaled down and stays sharp.
Can I resize to 28×28 without cropping?
Yes. Tick “Keep aspect ratio”: the whole picture is kept, but one side may come out shorter than 28×28. Without it, the image fills 28×28 exactly and the edges that do not fit the 1:1 shape are trimmed.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted or stored, and you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it still works.
