Resize Image to 1 MB
1 MB is the everyday limit — small enough for emails and forms, large enough to keep a photo sharp. This page opens the compressor with a 1 MB target. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Need different dimensions instead? Resize or convert.
Why compress to 1 MB?
A 1 MB target is usually set for blog images, large web graphics and attachments. A JPG photo of around 2520×1890 pixels fits, with very good quality.
About 2520×1890 px fits
At medium quality a detailed JPG photo of roughly 2520×1890 pixels lands under 1 MB; at high quality about 1760×1320.
Typical use
1 MB limits are common for blog images, large web graphics and attachments.
3.5× smaller than a phone photo
A 12 MP phone photo is around 3–4 MB, so it must shrink about 3.5×. The tool lowers quality first and resizes only if needed.
Quality to expect
At 1 MB, quality is very good. There is room for a sharp, full-screen photo.
Scans and documents
A scanned A4 page of about 3040×4300 pixels usually fits, because text pages compress far better than photos.
Exact limit, checked
1 MB is measured as 1,048,576 bytes (1 KB = 1,024 bytes), the way most upload forms count it, so the file is never just over.

Getting under 1 MB
A 12-megapixel phone photo compresses to under 1 MB at good quality in most cases, without changing its dimensions. The target mode finds the highest quality that fits.
Sending by email? Several photos at 1 MB each keep the whole message small enough to send and quick to open.
HEIC from an iPhone? Convert first with HEIC to JPG; many forms don't accept HEIC even when it is under the size limit.
Still too big? Very high-resolution images (40+ megapixels) may need a smaller width — about 3000 pixels — before they fit at a quality you like.
Need JPEG specifically? Compress JPEG to 1 MB. Any other number: reduce image size in MB.

Frequently asked questions
Can I compress a photo to 1 MB without resizing it?
Usually yes. Most phone photos fit under 1 MB at full resolution with good quality. Only very large images need their dimensions reduced as well.
How many pixels fit in 1 MB?
For a detailed JPG photo, about 2520×1890 at medium quality or 3410×2560 at low quality. Simple graphics and scans can be much larger.
What quality will a 1 MB photo have?
Very good. There is room for a sharp, full-screen photo. The tool keeps the dimensions where it can and lowers compression quality first, so faces and text stay readable.
Is 1 MB the same as 1,000 KB?
Most forms count 1 MB as 1,024 KB (1,048,576 bytes). The tool uses that count, so the result fits under the limit.
Should I use JPG or WebP for 1 MB?
JPG is accepted everywhere and is the safe choice for forms. WebP holds about 30% more detail at the same size, ideal for websites that support it.
Why is my file still over 1 MB?
Very large or detailed images may not reach 1 MB by quality alone. Resize it first (for example to 2520 pixels wide) with the resizer, then compress again.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. They are read and compressed by your own browser and never leave your device. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and it will still work.
