How to convert JPG to BMP

Converting JPG to BMP stops any further quality loss and gives you a file that supports transparency, which is useful if you plan to edit the image or place it over a coloured background.

  1. Click the Choose Files button and select your JPG files.
  2. BMP is already selected as the output. Click the gear if you want to adjust quality or resize.
  3. Click Convert, then hit Download to save your BMP files, or grab them all as a ZIP.

Built for JPG files

Drop in as many JPG images as you like and they all come out as BMP. You can also change the output on any individual file if you need a mixed batch.

Keep the quality

Adjust quality per file and resize on the way through. Formats without transparency get a clean white matte instead of the black edges most converters leave behind.

🔒

Nothing is uploaded

Your files are read and written by your own browser. They are never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards and no size or file-count limit.

More image tools

Everything below is built into this converter — no separate tool needed.

  1. Compress without converting — pick the same format as your input and lower the quality slider to shrink a file while keeping its type.
  2. Resize — open the gear on any file and set a maximum width; the height follows automatically.
  3. Images to PDF — choose PDF as the output to turn a photo or scan into a document.
  4. Make a favicon — choose ICO as the output to produce a browser icon from any square image.
What is a JPG file?

JPG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. JPG is the most widely supported image format in existence. It uses lossy compression, discarding detail the eye is unlikely to notice in order to produce a much smaller file.

JPG cannot store transparency, and repeatedly re-saving a JPG degrades it a little each time.

What is a BMP file?

BMP stands for Bitmap. BMP stores pixels with no compression at all. That makes it simple and completely lossless, and it is still used by some Windows software and older imaging tools.

Files are very large — often ten times the size of the same image as PNG — and it has no place on a modern website.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to BMP improve the quality?

No. Detail already discarded by JPG cannot be recovered. What converting to BMP does is stop any further loss, so the image will not degrade again on the next save.

Is there a limit on file size or how many files I can convert?

No. Conversion runs inside your browser rather than on a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no cap. Very large images may simply take a moment on a slower device.

Are my JPG files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are read and written by your own browser and never leave your device. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the converter will still work.
