How to convert AVIF to PNG
Converting AVIF to PNG stops any further quality loss and gives you a file that supports transparency, which is useful if you plan to edit the image or place it over a coloured background.
- Click the Choose Files button and select your AVIF files.
- PNG is already selected as the output. Click the gear if you want to adjust quality or resize.
- Click Convert, then hit Download to save your PNG files, or grab them all as a ZIP.
Built for AVIF files
Drop in as many AVIF images as you like and they all come out as PNG. You can also change the output on any individual file if you need a mixed batch.
Keep the quality
Adjust quality per file and resize on the way through. Formats without transparency get a clean white matte instead of the black edges most converters leave behind.
Nothing is uploaded
Your files are read and written by your own browser. They are never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards and no size or file-count limit.
More image tools
Everything below is built into this converter — no separate tool needed.
- Compress without converting — pick the same format as your input and lower the quality slider to shrink a file while keeping its type.
- Resize — open the gear on any file and set a maximum width; the height follows automatically.
- Images to PDF — choose PDF as the output to turn a photo or scan into a document.
- Make a favicon — choose ICO as the output to produce a browser icon from any square image.
What is a AVIF file?
AVIF stands for AV1 Image File Format. AVIF is the newest of the mainstream web formats. It generally produces the smallest file of any of them at a given quality, supports transparency, and handles gradients and flat colour especially well.
Support outside browsers is still patchy, and not every browser can create AVIF files even though nearly all can display them.
What is a PNG file?
PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics. PNG is a lossless format, which means every pixel is preserved exactly as it was. It also supports transparency, so it is the usual choice for logos, icons, screenshots and any graphic with sharp edges or text.
Because nothing is thrown away, PNG files of photographs are often several times larger than the same image as JPG or WebP.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting AVIF to PNG improve the quality?
No. Detail already discarded by AVIF cannot be recovered. What converting to PNG does is stop any further loss, so the image will not degrade again on the next save.
Is there a limit on file size or how many files I can convert?
No. Conversion runs inside your browser rather than on a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no cap. Very large images may simply take a moment on a slower device.
Are my AVIF files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are read and written by your own browser and never leave your device. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the converter will still work.
