How to convert to GIF

This page converts any supported image into GIF. GIF stores a maximum of 256 colours per image and supports simple animation. It is the oldest format still in common use on the web.

  1. Click the Choose Files button and select any images you want as GIF.
  2. GIF is already selected. Change it on any individual file if you want a mixed batch.
  3. Click Convert, then download your GIF files individually or as a ZIP.

Anything into GIF

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF can all be turned into GIF here, in a single batch if you like, with no limit on how many files you drop in.

Keep the quality

Adjust quality per file and resize on the way through. Formats without transparency get a clean white matte instead of the black edges most converters leave behind.

🔒

Nothing is uploaded

Your files are read and written by your own browser. They are never sent to a server, so there is nothing to delete afterwards and no size or file-count limit.

More image tools

Everything below is built into this converter — no separate tool needed.

  1. Compress without converting — pick the same format as your input and lower the quality slider to shrink a file while keeping its type.
  2. Resize — open the gear on any file and set a maximum width; the height follows automatically.
  3. Images to PDF — choose PDF as the output to turn a photo or scan into a document.
  4. Make a favicon — choose ICO as the output to produce a browser icon from any square image.
What is a GIF file?

GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIF stores a maximum of 256 colours per image and supports simple animation. It is the oldest format still in common use on the web.

The 256-colour limit makes GIF a poor choice for photographs, which end up visibly banded. For still images PNG is almost always better.

Frequently asked questions

What can I convert to GIF?

JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP and TIFF can all be converted to GIF on this page. Drop in a mixed batch and they will all come out as GIF.

Is there a limit on file size or how many files I can convert?

No. Conversion runs inside your browser rather than on a server, so there is no upload, no queue and no cap.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are read and written by your own browser and never leave your device. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and the converter will still work.
